Does Your Roof Need to Be Replaced?
The roof of your home needs to be cared for just as with the rest of your home, but most people rarely pay attention to their roof until there's a leak, it appears disheveled, or they see missing shingles. If your roof is in bad shape, it can cause a lot of damage to the rest of your home as well. If you don't pay enough attention to your roof, you may need to pay for extensive repairs or replacements. If you aren't sure if you need to have your roof replaced, read on for a few signs that it is time.
You Have a Lot of Missing Shingles
If your roof is missing shingles and it's only just a few, such as they were blown off in a storm, you may be able to just replace the shingles. However, if you're missing quite a few shingles, you may need to replace your entire roof. Your shingles may just be in bad shape that they are easily blown off and aren't going to protect your home from the weather as they should. Replacing the roof is going to be necessary to help prevent water damage.
You Have Water Damage
If you already have water damage inside your home, you're going to want to replace your roof. Even if your shingles look like they are all intact and in good shape, the sheeting below may be in poor condition and you need to have your roof replaced. The shingles can only do so much to protect your home, the wood sheeting also has to do its part, and if the wood is soft or rotting away, your roof needs to be replaced. You may have noticed water damage inside your home, in your attic, along your walls, or you may see water spots on your ceiling.
Your Shingles Are Peeling Up
If your shingles appear to be peeling up, or your roof looks uneven in any way, it could be due to weather damage and your shingles should be replaced. The wood below may also need to be replaced. Weather such as sun, rain, or ice/snow can all damage your roof with time. If you spot this type of damage, have your roof replaced.
If you don't pay close attention to your roof, you may be missing out on seeing the damage that may be able to be repaired. If you wait too long, your roof will need to be replaced. If you aren't sure if your roof needs replacing or just repaired, hire a roofing contractor to inspect your roof for you.
